Tiger Woods continued to prove that his game remains out in the “woods.”  RGIII and Andrew Luck squared off for the first time in what will hopefully be long and successful careers.  And Japan’s Little League team not only proved that they were the best Little League team on the planet by far, they also brought up the question of whether they could compete against the Houston Astros (just kidding).  Last week was a bundle of fun, but this week will be great in its own right.  Here are the events to keep an eye on.

5.  Bristol was filled with fireworks as is typically the case.  Just ask Tony Stewart.  Denny Hamlin was the man who stood on the podium as the winner in the end though.  There are only two more races until the Chase begins at Chicagoland Speedway on September 16th.  Who will nab the final spots?  We will know a little more after Sunday’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Andy Murray has officially established himself as the “GOAT (Greatest Of All Time)” to never win a Grand Slam.  His tears and pain were felt by an entire country.  The MLB enters the All-Star Break with both the Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals sitting atop their respective divisions.  NBA free-agency has every team around the League on high alert.  And guess what?  This week is going to be jam-packed in its own right.  Here are the events to keep an eye on.

5.  The countdown is on.  The whole world will focus their attention on one place in a mere 18 days for arguably the greatest event in sports.  Get ready for the London 2012 Summer Olympics.  It should be one for the ages.

4.  Big Tony Stewart thoroughly enjoyed his stay in Daytona.  Now it is time to head to New Hampshire.  Not exactly Daytona, but still an important stop in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.  Last year, Ryan Newman came out victorious at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.  Newman currently finds himself ranking 15th in the current standings with one win on the year.  A repeat of last year could go a long way in helping Newman solidify a spot in the Chase come September. It was another wild week in the sporting world.  The Jerry Sandusky scandal in a not so “Happy” Valley.  Great games at both the collegiate and professional ranks on the gridiron.  Plus we even got our first of NCAA hoops actions since last April.  It is safe to say that last week was fun.  But the fun is just beginning.

Here are the events to keep an eye on this week.

5.  The NBA player’s association will meet today in New York.  This is without question the most important meeting yet, but also seems to hold the answer to the question we have all been waiting to learn.  Whether there will be NBA basketball this season or not.  Now I realize this is not the end all be all of meetings.  But it will really give everyone an idea of if a deal is a possibility.  Let’s pray the reps from all 30 teams are satisfied with the seven page summary of the NBA’s latest CBA proposal. The “Game of the Century” has come and gone.  Another great week of NFL football defined by nail biters is nearly in the books.  And the NBA does not appear to be any closer to starting the long-awaited 2011/2012 regular season.  The sporting world was wild last week, but this week is sure to be top-notch as well.

Here are the events to keep an eye on this week.

5.  The NASCAR Spring Cup Chase for the Cup has come down to the final two races.  It is hard to believe, but in a year full of uncertainty and surprise in the sport, it seems it will all be decided between Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart.  Does anybody else miss Jimmie Johnson at the top of the sport already? Who are you taking as they head to Phoenix this weekend?

4.  Finally an ultimatum has been made in the NBA negotiations. Continue reading
