Once again Dwayne Wade put on another stunning performance last night as he led the Heat to yet another victory. The Heat now stand at 6 and 1. So I guess the real question..are the Heat forreal?
I mean Dwayne Wade is putting up over 29 a game and does not look to be slowing anytime soon and the team is winning ball games. But are they really deep enough to keep this type of pace up for an 82 game stretch and then into the playoffs..most experts would say no.
No buddy will ever question Wade’s greatness again, but with the team he has around him, the East’s top teams are too deep for him to almost single-handedly defeat in a best of 7 playoff series. Night in and night out, the Heat will need Wade to play 40 minutes, take 30 shots and score 30 a game. If Wade does not do these things, the team will not win. Lets also not forget, with the physical brand of basketball Wade has always played, he has always been injury prone. Going 40 minutes every night and carrying a team will make him very susceptible to injuries. Well this is way too much to ask of one man. I do not care if you are Lebron or Kobe, with the team that Heat have, this is entirely too much. Both the King and Kobe have teams that can win on the very rare off night of one of the superstars. Wade does not share in this luxury.
Players like Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers are really going to have to develop as this year goes on for the Heat to have any prayers of playing deep into the playoffs. Not to mention Jermaine O’Neal is going to have to become a dominant post player again. If these guys do not all step up, the Heat will not contend for a title. They will make the playoffs, but the East once again is headed by the 3 headed monster of the Celtics, Magic, and Cavaliers until somebody proves it different.
All I have to say is this offseason will be one of the ages with guys like Lebron, Wade, and Bosh all having the options to go elsewhere. Enjoy the League as it is, because the Earthquake of the summer 2010 is on its way.
Stay tuned for Edition 60.
